Mr. Martz received his bachelors and masters degrees from Northwest MO State University.  He has also studied at the Conservatory of Music-UMKC, KU, KS State University, Baker University, and the University of MO-Columbia.  He started teaching 27 years ago, serving the last 15 years at Lincoln Prep.  He has performed as a member of the Atchison Orchestra, St. Joseph Orchestra, St. Joseph Community Band, and the North Star Community Band.  He is past president of the KCMSD Music Advisory Board, was lead teacher of the Instrumental Music Curriculum Focus Group, VP of the KC Youth Wind Ensemble Board, and is a member of MBA, NBA, MMEA, MENC, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.  Mr. Martz just celebrated his 27th wedding anniversary and has two sons.

 

Jason Bata

Born and raised in Iowa, Jason Bata first came to Missouri in 1991 to attend Truman State University.  After earning a Bachelor of Music in Saxophone Performance, he was accepted into the music program of the Conservatory of Music-UMKC.  It was there that he completed two degree programs, a Bachelor of Music Education and a Masters in Music Education.  While working on his undergraduate degrees, Mr. Bata participated in jazz big bands and combos, wind ensembles, and saxophone quartets, performing in different state and national conventions across the U.S.  Today, Mr. Bata is a participating member of Missouri Bandmasters Association, Missouri Music Educators Association, Music Educators National Conference, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia and Pi Kappa Lambda.  

Mr. Bata began his teaching career at the Foreign Language Academy for two years.  Currently, he is in his 8th year at Lincoln Prep, where he created the award-winning Jazz Ensemble.  The LAJE has worked with and performed for Bobby Watson, John Faddis, Slide Hampton, Wynton Marsalis, and various accomplished local musicians and alumni.  He enjoys his time with his two young children and his wife of eleven years.
