THE TRADITION

The tradition of excellence associated with Lincoln Prep’s band program began nineteen years ago. Starting with 32 students, the band started developing a performance based college prep curriculum.

In the high school, we divide into Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble. Our bands received their first district and state medals 27 years ago. The Wind Ensemble has received a State Championship “One” Rating, with a perfect score, for the last 21 years.

Our Jazz Band also earns its share of trophies, soloist awards, and First Place Championships. Each year, our instrumental soloists increase their number of District and State Championship medals.

Since 1996, we have had 164 members make one of the All‑District Bands and 41 members make All-State Band, 10 members receiving first chair All-State honors.

Yearly, our band students receive college scholarships and consistently receive some of the highest ACT scores earned at Lincoln. We even had 20 students perform in the Robert Altman movie, Kansas City.

in the middle school, our younger band members prepare for all this activity by mastering the essential music fundamentals and performance skills necessary for quality musicianship.

We stress a pre-IB  band curriculum & the district core curriculum in the middle schools years.

Our advanced M.S. students consistently receive the highest ratings and scores possible in both solo and large ensemble festivals.

THE TRIPS

To supplement our curriculum, our upper bands have a tradition of traveling every two years. In 1992, we traveled to the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and MGM Studios.

In 1994, 2000 and 2006, we traveled to Hawaii, exploring Oahu and enjoying Waikiki Beach.

In the spring of 1996, we enjoyed a Western Caribbean Cruise. We explored Mayan Ruins at Playa Del Carmen, Cozumel, and Key West and ended the week at Kennedy Space Center.

In 1998, we took a Pacific Cruise to Catalina Island and the Baja Peninsula and visited Disneyland and Universal Studios.

In the spring of 2002, we headed to the Bahamas on an Eastern Caribbean Cruise.

In 2004, we headed to Florida, two days in Orlando, three days in Cocoa Beach, Universal Studios.

In 2008, we took a cruise to Jamaica & the Grand Cayman Islands.

In 2009, we performed in Carnegie Hall in New York City.

In 2010, we took a cruise to the Bahamas.

In 2011, we performed a series of three concert in Beijing and Xi'an, China.

In 2013, the Wind Ensemble performed for a second time at Carnegie Hall.

In 2015, we competed and won at Disney World.
